7 MUST-HAVE SAFETY ITEMS FOR YOUR TRUCK
If you own a truck, being prepared for roadside emergencies is a must. Fortunately, there are a number of truck accessories that can help you deal with problems that can arise on the road. Here are seven essential safety items you should always keep in your truck.
1. Spare tire
Don’t let getting a flat tire leave you stranded. Instead, make sure you have a spare tire that’s inflated and in good condition. You’ll also need a jack, tire iron and wrench to help you remove the damaged tire and replace it with your spare.
2. Battery booster
If your truck’s battery dies and you have jumper cables on hand, you can get back to the road quickly, as long as another motorist is willing to help. However, if you tend to drive in remote rural areas, it’s a good idea to prepare a battery booster in case there’s an emergency.
3. Tool kit
Some drivers overlook the importance of having a tool kit on hand. Tire gauges, screwdrivers, pliers, duct tapes and gloves can help get you out of a jam if your truck breaks down.
4. Flares
If you need to pull over to the side of the road, don’t forget to set up flares. This will enhance your visibility and help ensure you’re seen by other drivers.
5. Ice scraper
In winter, your vehicle’s windshield can quickly become caked with snow and ice. Consequently, it’s important to have an ice scraper on hand.
6. Fire extinguisher
Mechanical failures and leaking fuel can sometimes result in fires. Remember to keep an extinguisher in your vehicle that’s easy to access in an emergency.
7. First aid kit
A first aid kit that includes bandages, gauge pads, pain killers, hand sanitizer, scissors and more is a must. If you get injured, a first aid kit can help you manage pain and treat wounds before roadside assistance arrives.
Though this isn’t an exhaustive list, it indicates what items are essential to keep in your vehicle. Depending on your individual needs, there may be other things you’ll require including towing hitches, roof racks, mud flaps and more.
